Giving Tuesday organization spotlight

As we head into Giving Tuesday, there are so many incredible nonprofit organizations doing amazing work for their communities. I wanted to highlight a few organizations that I am supporting:

My Favorite Organizations

Go The Distance: GTD staff and volunteers go to treatment centers to take clients on walk/run to connect movement and recovery. GTD also hosts community events for anyone in or seeking recovery, and allies. We have a great community, and I’ve been able to help coach a team and run the Portland Half Marathon in 2023 and Portland Marathon in 2024. It’s also been amazing to see the growth of people in recovery.

She Recovers: This organization hosts two online meetings a day for women and non-binary individuals on all topics of recovery, which can include drugs, alcohol, grief, loss, trauma, and more. I’ve learned so much from the women that I’ve met online and was fortunate to travel to Vancouver, BC, to meet the founders Dawn Nickel and Taryn Strong in person. (The head of Board for She Recovers Canada is Dawn Kuehn, so it’s cool to be connected to other Dawns!)

Defeat Multiple Myeloma: Since 2013, I have run this 5k most year to raise funds to support Fred Hutch Cancer Center to Defeat Multiple Myeloma. I brought together friends when I lived in Utqiagvik, AK (formerly Barrow, the Northern-most city in the United States). I have also made the trip to Seattle and run in Portland, OR.

Additional Shout Outs

I would also give a shoutout to a few more:
Rising Hearts
Trail Mix Fund
Legal Aid Services of Oregon
bras for girls
