I wanted to showcase two additional CLE (Continuing Legal Education) courses that are available on-demand from the Oregon State Bar.
ANCSA at 50 – This Seminar talks about the history of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act as it hit 50 years old. It also includes discussion of Alaska Native Corporations, and the Chehalis decision. (The course was postponed from its originally scheduled date.)
An Introduction to Practice in Indian Country – As we learned at the Indian Law Section CLE, there is a shortage of attorneys that practice in Indian Country, and Tribal courts across the State. This course provides an overview.
If you are interested in practicing in Tribal court, reach out to the Tribes directly. Here are a few in Oregon:
Klamath Tribal Court
CTUIR Tribal Court
Burns-Paiute Tribal Court
Siletz Tribal Court
Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Tribal Court
Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Tribal Court
Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Tribal Court
Coquille Indian Tribe Tribal Court
Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Indians
You can also learn more from the Native American Law Program at Legal Aid Services of Oregon.
