Wellbeing Week in Law

May is National Mental Health Awareness Month and May 5-9 is Well-Being in Law Week.

There are a lot of great resources out there for the general public and focused on attorneys in particular, because of the unique stress of the profession, the stigma in seeking help and the rates of alcohol abuse and suicide. As an attorney in recovery, who lost a classmate to suicide, it’s not just seeing the numbers but knowing these real life impacts that led me to volunteer and run with Go The Distance to support people in treatment, and got trained in Yoga for 12 Step recovery and more.

I have shared some resources already on this blog (on well-being, creativity, navigating uncertainty). And wanted to provide an update with things this month:

The Institute for Well-Being in Law is hosting “Well-being Week in Law” on May 5-9, 2025. This year’s overall theme is The Social Rx: Boosting Well-Being with Connection. You can learn more and register here. There are daily activities, daily zoom calls, and more.

The Oregon Attorney Assistance Program is hosting Well-Being Month in the Oregon legal community with zoom calls with different topics each week and a calendar of events. Check your local state attorney assistance program to see if there is anything local.

The Mindfulness in Law Society is hosting additional Mindfulness events as part of WWIL events.

On this topic, I found this episode of the Former Lawyer Podcast to be really helpful. It’s short and called “It’s Ok if All you did this week is survive”.

I’m hosting a free webinar for the Association of Alaska Housing Authorities on May 7th on Managing Mental Health to Avoid Burnout.

Remember, you are not alone. I’m happy to connect with you on these topics and how to bring more Well-being to your organization through trainings, yoga, and more. Contact me.
